Artist Profile: Stephen Schildbach
Stephen Schildbach is an illustrator and web designer living in Seattle, WA. He graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design with an MFA in illustration in 1993. Out of school, he became a freelance illustrator, doing assignments for magazines, newspapers, books, brochures, posters and advertising campaigns. Up until 2005, his illustration work was entirely created with traditional materials, mostly in acrylic. He has always preferred the look of art created by hand, where the human touch conveys so much more emotion than a computer generated piece of visual art. But, as the computer has become an integral part of all of our lives, he saw opportunities in evolving his illustration style with the use of Photoshop, while not abandoning the hand done aesthetic that he enjoys. His newest work has evolved into a technique of combining traditional materials with the use of Photoshop in layers. His illustration clients include: Money Magazine, Harvard Business Review, US Airways Magazine, Consumer Reports, Seventeen, Utne Reader, New Republic, Entrepreneur, PC Magazine, MIT Technology Review, Seattle Magazine, New Jersey Monthly, Baltimore Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The LA Times, and The Village Voice. -
