Artist Profile: Jay Belmore Designs
Jay graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design. His editorial illustration was already published in magazines while still in his fourth year of study. He also attended the renowned Illustrators Workshop in New York. His award winning illustrations have appeared in magazines such as Vanity Fair, G.Q. and Newsweek. His corporate clients include Xerox, Magna and Ernst & Young. Jay’s conceptual illustrations find a solution to an assignment through the compelling use of scale, metamorphosis and the juxtaposition of different objects. His distinct style distills ideas and execution down to simple yet highly effective solutions. Jay has been illustrating for over 25 years and lives in Toronto, Canada. Jay’s illustrations are painted on illustration board using oil paint on a base of acrylic. This conceptual style is a soft focus surrealism with a grainy texture. The illustrations are often high key, high contrast and are resolved with a single iconic image. -
