Artist Profile: Gerald Bustamante
Gerald Bustamante is a visual artist living, surfing, and raising two boys with his wife Christy in Cardiff by the Sea, California. A graduate of graphic design at San Diego State University, he has been creating art from Studio Bustamante in downtown San Diego since 1985. His wide range of projects and clients include graphic design and illustration for Jose Cuervo Tequila, Tecate beer, the NBA, Pepsi, Gatorade, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Rolling Stone, Business Week and many others. Some of his better known work includes the logo for Stride Rite shoes, Murals for Niketown Tokyo, and special edition packaging for Perrier and Killian’s Red. His paintings have shown nationally and abroad, and he has been recognized and rewarded by many top graphic design and illustration organizations and publications including Communication Arts, the Type Directors Club, and American Illustration. Several of his posters are included in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress, and he has conducted workshops, judged design and illustration, and lectured extensively in the United States.
